NMSU begins roster rebuild with first transfer addition after portal closes

LAS CRUCES, N.M. — With the NCAA transfer portal window closed, the New Mexico
State Aggies men’s basketball have begun shaping their roster for the 2026–27 season,
adding their first transfer while several other players explore other opportunities.
New Mexico State is coming off a 16–16 season, finishing tied for eighth in Conference
USA.
The Aggies added junior guard Gabe Warren, a 6-foot-6 transfer from Holy Cross,
marking the program’s first incoming transfer of the cycle. Warren averaged 12.5 points
and 4.5 rebounds per game last season, bringing experience to the backcourt.
On the departure side, the Aggies are losing frontcourt depth. Walk-on forward Teysean
Eaglestaff, a 6-foot-7 product from Kansas City, appeared in four games and logged
eight total minutes. His next destination has not yet been decided.
Junior center Cyr Malonga, who stands 6-foot-11, also remains in the transfer portal
without a confirmed landing spot after averaging 3.5 points and 2.7 rebounds in limited
playing time.
Former Aggie Augustine Ekwe, leaves NMSU after his freshman year. After entering the portal, the 6-foot-9 forward, has committed to Weber State University in Ogden, Utah.
Ekwe appeared in 23 games, averaging 2.7 points and 2.4 rebounds while shooting 57.8
percent from the field in 10.6 minutes per game.
