PHOENIX, Ariz. — The New Mexico State swimming and diving team put together a strong showing Saturday. Nov. 8, finishing 3-1 in a quad meet in Phoenix, Ariz. The Aggies’ only setback came in a narrow 103-102 loss to Grand Canyon University.
Despite the one-point defeat, NMSU bounced back with dominant victories over Arizona Christian University, Ottawa University, and Simon Fraser University, winning each by more than 80 points.
The meet against GCU remained close throughout, with several standout performances from the Aggies. NMSU’s first win of the day came in the 100-yard backstroke, where Ellen Osthelder clocked a 1:00.51 to take first place, followed closely by teammate
Gracie Mynatt at 1:02.49.
The Aggies continued their momentum in the 200-yard freestyle, sweeping the top two spots. Katie Rink led the way with a time of 1:49.99, while Dijana Mazumdar finished just behind in 1:50.40.
The diving team delivered one of the meet’s most impressive performances, showcasing complete control on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards. In the 1-meter, Mira Tinani claimed first place, followed by Peytton Moore in second and Addison Pastiak in third. Tinani struck again in the 3-meter event, taking first place, while Pastiak earned the runner-up spot.
Up next, the Aggies will head to Houston for the Phil Hansel Invitational Nov. 19 to 21. Last season, NMSU finished 3rd, 5th and 6th across different events.
