LAS CRUCES, N.M. — For some students at New Mexico State University, stress relief looks like going to the gym or taking a walk. For members of the Crochet Cuties Club, it looks like yarn, hooks and handmade plushies.
Allison Barricklow, a cybersecurity major from Rio Rancho, New Mexico, says it’s a good way to relieve stress from school.
“It’s something physical,” Barricklow said. “Like not being on my phone, it’s a nice way to be off screens, and you get to create things, which is so cute.”
Barricklow was recognized as the Crochet Cutie of the Month for March, showing off her talent and encouraging others to participate.
The Crochet Cuties meet every Wednesday at 5 p.m. in the Hardman Jacobs Learning Center, room 230, where they teach students step-by-step how to crochet. All materials are provided, and members follow patterns based on the project they are working on each week. The club aims to encourage all students to attend by creating a relaxing space to take a break from schoolwork, meet new people, and learn something new.
