LAS CRUCES, N.M. — Las Cruces is celebrating Earth Day, a day where environmental awareness is at the forefront of the world’s minds.
The celebration will be taking place 3-10 p.m. Saturday, April 18, at Young Park in Las Cruces. Earth Day festivities include interactive activities for families ready to learn more about the environment, vendor stations held by industry professionals, as well as live music 6-10 p.m., featuring performances by Frontera Bugalu, Era Snow, Desert Roots, The Mule Tones and Muffin.
Many Las Cruces locals will gather for the purpose of spreading awareness, celebrating the Earth, and reminding people of the value of the planet we reside on.
“We wanted to provide an opportunity for the community to come together and learn about our local environment,” said Neeshia Macanowicz, an event organizer and ecologis. “[Show the people] what’s right outside our backyards, and what they can tap into and get involved in to gain an appreciation for the planet and the Chihuahuan [Desert].”
“Earth Day is a collective reminder that the soil we walk on is the same that other creatures walk
upon, and from where plants grow,” Macanowicz said. “Earth is not ours to claim, but it is our responsibility to care for it and everything within it.”
