The Special Olympics New Mexico Holiday Classic competition occurred in Las Cruces Nov. 14-16. There were 800 Special Olympic athletes and Unified Sports partners who competed in multiple events and sports. This included basketball, corn hole and many other skills events during the competition weekend.
The corn hole competitions took place at Las Cruces Convention Center while the basketball games were hosted at NMSU and Las Cruces High School.
There were multiple Unified Sports high schools in Las Cruces who attended this event. Students of these schools competed alongside Special Olympic athletes while wearing their school jerseys.
The Corn hole competition at the Las Cruces Convention Center had eight courts and each team played multiple rounds before being awarded.
The NMSU Activity Center hosted 5-on-5 basketball games while Las Cruces High School held the 3-on-3 competition and team skills event. An awards ceremony for each competition was held at the Las Cruces Convention Center.
Special Olympics New Mexico consists of six geographic areas that serve every county in the state. Each location is administered by an area director and an area management team.
The organization serves more than 3,100 athletes throughout the state, offering year-round training, games, fundraising and more.
