LAS CRUCES, N.M. — After a heartbreaking loss last week at Liberty University, the New Mexico State football team (3-3, 1-2) comes back to the comfort of their home as they host Conference USA newcomer Missouri State University (3-3, 1-1) at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, at Aggie Memorial Stadium.
This will be the final Weekday CUSA game of the year for the Aggies. Once again, NMSU has a chance at history, as they look to improve to 4-0 at home for the first time since 2002.
Despite the loss to Liberty, the Aggies’ offense saw strong performances from quarterback Logan Fife, running back Kadarius Calloway and wide receiver TK King.
A bright spot from last week’s loss was that the run game saw massive improvements. Calloway had 17 carries for 84 yards along with one touchdown. NMSU as a team rushed for 146 yards, the first time they eclipsed 100 yards rushing this season.
Mistakes on special teams last week proved costly for NMSU. In a press conference Friday, head coach Tony Sanchez discussed the teams approach to avoiding such errors.
“Some of these critical errors that we talked to our team about got in our way,” Sanchez said. “I know what our team is capable of doing if we find ourselves. Those guys will be fine.”
Led by defensive lineman Ezra Christensen, the Aggies are currently tied for 12th in the country for turnovers forced. Unfortunately for the NMSU defense, cornerback Dakerric Hobbs will miss the rest of the season with a torn labrum.
After holding on last week against Middle Tennessee State University, the Missouri State Bears, who sit at .500 for their inaugural season in FBS, notched their first-ever CUSA victory.
The Bears enter Wednesday’s game looking to carry the momentum from their first conference win through the bye week into this weekday matchup. Meanwhile, the Aggies look to get back into the win column and start 4-0 at home.
