LAS CRUCES, N.M. — The New Mexico State University rodeo team will host its annual spring rodeo the weekend of April 10–11 at the Southern New Mexico State Fairgrounds. Rodeo athletes from across the region will compete for two evenings with live music happening after.
In the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association rankings released April 1, the NMSU men’s team is currently No. 1 nationally, as well as No. 1 in the Grand Canyon Region. The Aggie women are No. 3 in the Grand Canyon Region.
The rodeo will include athletes from NMSU and other colleges competing in events like team roping, bronc riding, barrel racing and more. Both performances are scheduled to start at 6 p.m. each night and will be followed by concerts.
The Yarbrough Band will perform after the rodeo on Friday, April 10. On Saturday, April 11, Aaron Watson will be performing. The fairgrounds address is 12125 Robert Larson Blvd. west of Las Cruces.
Organizers have said the weekend offers something for everyone. You can expect an evening of talented athletes as well as entertainment, food, music, dancing, and more.
It takes a lot of time and effort to rodeo at the collegiate level. It is highly competitive and requires a lot of work. Balancing school, practice, travel and taking care of animals is not easy. The NMSU rodeo gives locals a chance to come see all the work the Aggie team has put in this year. Another bonus is getting to see all the animals in action.
The spring rodeo is a highlight of the NMSU rodeo season and provides the community with a chance to support. Students are encouraged to come out. These athletes and animals are fun to watch.
