LAS CRUCES, N.M. — The New Mexico State men’s tennis team will host Lubbock Christian University this weekend for their final home match of the season before heading for the Conference USA Men’s Tennis Championship the following week.
The match is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 11, at the NMSU Tennis Center, located at 1800 Wells St., with doubles followed by singles.
The Aggies roster features seniors Patrick Lohmann and Roko Stipetic, juniors Lance Urlaub and Tobias Wallin, sophomores Matías Rojas and Holland Snell, and freshman Laurendi Fischer. The team is led by head coach Carlos Vargas and graduate assistant Adrian Coulome.
Last week, the Aggies fell 4-2 to in-state rival New Mexico but previously secured a 4-2 victory over Oral Roberts. However, the team has found success against Lubbock Christian in recent years, defeating the top-ranked DII team in each of the past two seasons.
“We expect to face competitive high-level players, so we have to play well to beat them,” Matías Rojas said, an Aggie from Chile.
Saturday’s match is the final opportunity for the Aggies to compete at home this spring. The team hopes to use it as preparation for the upcoming CUSA tournament.
“This is significant because it is a school with a strong program. It is a valuable match for staying in rhythm and building confidence ahead of conference,” Patrick Lohmann said, an Aggie from Mexico.
Fans attending the match will feel a competitive and energetic atmosphere, with each point creating strong reactions from both players and spectators.
Following a demanding spring schedule, the Aggies will look to carry confidence into the CUSA Championship in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, where a strong performance could define their season.
“It means a lot; it took four years of immense effort and sacrifice to complete my collegiate tennis career. It brings me great joy to have achieved my goal—playing four years of college tennis,” Lohmann said.
