LAS CRUCES, N.M.- Last Thursday’s presentation of the Annual Sustainable Fashion Show drew in a large crowd and much applause. Twenty-three New Mexico State University students designed an array of outfits for this year’s theme “Reimagine,” using upcycled and sustainable material. Designs ranged from a dress made from plastic bags to a reimagined wedding dress.
Everything in the show, staged in Corbett Center’s Aggie Lounge, was student-based. Along with the student designers, all the models, stylists, and promoters for the event were students. For many students in this program, this was a fantastic opportunity to dive into the world of design and merchandising.
Dr. Kelley Coffeen and her Events and Marketing team said the show was a benefit to students in the program.
“This show was an example of experiential learning for our students- event planning, marketing, promotion along with technical design,” Coffeen said.
There was also a special dedication to the senior designers, Daniela Carranco, Xavier Galindo, Elisabeth Guerro, Nadia Leanos, Atlee Musgrave, Natalia Ochoa, Triny Rivera, Aiden Sever and Becca Strong for a commemoration of their last show here at NMSU.
