LAS CRUCES, N.M. — A suspect identified as Philip Adrian Mullin, 50, died after an officer-involved shooting outside the Chili’s Grill and Bar on 426 South Telshor Boulevard in Las Cruces Oct. 9. Las Cruces police and the Officer-involved Incident Task Force are investigating the incident.
Police arrived at the scene around 6 p.m. after hearing about Mullin threatening patrons and workers. Preliminary information from the investigation shows that the first officer to report to the restaurant made contact with Mullin in the parking lot.
Indications display that the officer was threatened by Mullin, which led to the discharge of at least one round from the officer’s weapon. Life-saving measures were performed by the officers, but Mullin succumbed to his injuries.
The officer involved has no injuries and has not been identified. He was placed on standard administrative leave pending further investigation.
The Chili’s will be temporarily closed until the investigation is done. Las Cruces police plans to hold a news conference on the situation early this week.
