Five things to do in Las Cruces during Spring Break

LAS CRUCES, N.M. — As spring break approaches, the anticipation for a much-needed break from classes kicks in. However, planning the best getaways does not have to drain your bank account.

Whether you want to relax or go on an adventure, there are many ways to make your break worth it in Las Cruces. From going on a hike to planning activities with friends, a great spring break is doable on any budget. With little planning, you can enjoy the time off without stressing about money. Here are a few things to do in the City of Crosses for the break on a budget:

1. Take a hike up Dripping Springs Natural Area

If you want to get your steps in and get a sweat, Dripping Springs Natural Area is always a good spot for a hike with friends, family or even animals.

2. Enjoy the Old Mesilla Plaza

Mesilla is a historic village with clean signage, memorable history and a great atmosphere. The village has many stores and restaurants to check out like Billy the Kid Gift Shop, Del Sol Mesilla, The Chocolate Lady and Andele’s Dog House.

3. Check out the Las Cruces Museum of Nature & Science

The Las Cruces Museum of Nature & Science is designed to show the city’s rich past. This museum gives visitors the opportunity to view interesting exhibits that tell the story of Las Cruces and the surrounding areas. These exhibits include artifacts from multiple timelines, showing what life is like in the city from when it first originated to now.

4. Visit Picacho Hills Country Club

Picacho Hills Country Club is not just a desired destination for golf enthusiasts, but also for those who are learning the sport or just simply want to try something new. The golf course gives visitors the chance of witnessing an amazing view of surrounding mountains while golfing. It is a good spot to hang out with family and friends. The clubhouse offers space to relax before or after playing. Drinks, snacks and meals can also be ordered.

5. Visit Sparky’s Burgers & BBQ

Just up the road from Las Cruces on Interstate 25, Sparky’s Burgers & BBQ in Hatch is a restaurant local residents must try. It is home of the World Famous Hatch Green Chile Cheeseburger, pulled pork and chicken. They also have a variety of dessert options with recipes using Hatch Green Chile in milkshakes and fresh lemonades. Pies, brownies and ice cream are also offered. Sparky’s is just a 40-mile drive from Las Cruces.
