LONG BEACH, CALIF. — The New Mexico State swimming and diving team made the trip to Long Beach, California, to compete in the MPSF Open Water Championships. The women’s team raced in two events: the LC 5000-Meter Freestyle and the LC 2000-Meter Freestyle Relay.
In the 5000-Meter Freestyle, Estel Galo-Nogueira placed 8th with a time of 1:03:40.00, followed by Katie Rink in 17th at 1:05:12.00. Natalia Florian finished 52nd with 1:10:55.00, Bella Schultz took 67th at 1:14:35.00 and Jamie Puhalski rounded out the group in 70th with 1:16:11.00. There were 76 swimmers competing in the event.
In the 2000-Meter Freestyle Relay, the Aggies placed 9th out of 25 teams with a time of 27:04.96. Overall, NMSU finished 6th out of 17 schools and scored 62 points. This marked the first time NMSU has competed in this meet.
Next up, the Aggies will face the University of Northern Colorado at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25. Northern Colorado has been a tough opponent in the past but with NMSU’s undefeated home record and growing momentum, fans can expect a close and exciting meet.
