LAS CRUCES, N.M. — The New Mexico State Women’s Swimming and Diving Team showcased their dominance in a commanding meet against Utah Tech University and the University of New Mexico, improving their record to 4-0 with no signs of slowing down.
The two-day meet began Oct. 10, with the Aggies defeating Utah Tech 76-26 and New Mexico 90-12. They carried the momentum into Oct. 11, earning another pair of wins. They defeated Utah Tech 170-90 and New Mexico 203-87.
The Aggies did not drop a single event until the third race on the second day. In total, they claimed first place in 18 of the 22 events across both days.
They started strong with the 400 Medley Relay, as Emily Dobbins, Kodi Wiman, Willow Messner and Dijana Mazumdar took first place with a time of 3:49.91. The team maintained their intensity throughout the meet, never taking their foot off the gas.
On Oct. 11, they continued to prove why they were undefeated at home last season. In the 200 Medley Relay, Dobbins, Wiman, Messner and Mazumdar again finished first with a time of 1:44.98. Right behind them was another Aggie relay team — Thea Masselink, Foteini Charitou, Faye McDonagh and Caroline Costantini — who finished second with a time of 1:46.51.
NMSU dominated several individual events as well, taking both first and second place in the 100 Free, 200 Back, 500 Free, 100 Fly and 200 IM.
Head Coach Rick Pratt said he was glad to see his team perform well.
“This weekend was a lot of fun, and we had many strong performances across the board. It was a great experience to have a bunch of races and to see where we are headed in our next six weeks of training,” Pratt said. “We’re motivated, we’re excited for the strength of our team and ready to keep pushing forward. We have got to stay healthy and diligent over the next couple months for overall success in February. Overall, this was a very successful weekend.”
