21-year-old dead after party in Las Cruces

LAS CRUCES, N.M. — One man is dead and three injured after shots were fired at a house party in Las Cruces late Saturday night, according to a Las Cruces Police press release.

Officers were dispatched at 11:46 p.m. Nov. 15 to the 2400 block of Bugatti drive, according to the press release. When police arrived, 21-year-old Lance Chavez was pronounced dead on scene.

Three other victims were taken to area hospitals with gunshot wounds. Their condition is unknown. Las Cruces Police have arrested a 16-year-old boy in connection to these events.

There were a large number of people at the house party, according to Public Information Officer for Las Cruces Police and Fire Dan Trujillo.

Detectives learned that several people at the party were seen recording the incident on their cell phones. Investigators believe videos could be critical in identifying suspects and understanding what led to the shooting, according to the press release.

LCPD is asking anyone who has video or information on the incident to submit them online and contact investigators at 575-526-0795.
