LAS CRUCES, N.M. — The Aggies open the 2026 campaign on the road Feb. 13-15 in Waco, Texas to face the Baylor Bears in a three-game series.
The Aggies will stay in Texas until Monday, Feb. 16, to face the University of Oklahoma in a one-and-done game at Globe Life Field, home of the Texas Rangers. The Aggies home-opener is set for another weekend series against Towson University Feb. 20-22.
Entering year three of the Jake Angier era, the Aggies are projected to finish ninth in the preseason Conference USA poll, while also receiving one first-place vote. Designated hitter, and Las Cruces native Steve Solorzano made the CUSA preseason All-Conference team. Solorzano batted .335 with eight home runs and 41 RBIs which earned him CUSA All-Conference last season.
Solorzano may be the only Aggie to receive All-Conference nomination, but he is not the only Aggie to watch out for this season.
Senior Jack Turner is someone Angier anticipates to have a big year for the Aggies. Last year Turner started 10 games and had a 5.80 ERA in 54.1 innings pitched.
Depth is something that will help the Aggies this year according to coach Angier.
“We got more than nine capable guys that could be in the lineup,” Angier said. “We got good players all over the place.”
As expectations are high for the Aggies this year, Angier pointed to a key factor that could take this Aggie team to another level.
“The locker room,” Angier said. “This team has really good team chemistry… it’s been the focus for us, having a selfless group that cares more about the team than themselves.”
Angier was able to keep his freshman pitchers, such as Cooper Reese and Cade Shumard who saw significant playing time last year, and he hopes they can make another leap this year
Experience will help the Aggies this year as they have 10 seniors on the team.
“That’s a lot of experience,” Angier said. “Guys who have seen a lot defensively and offensively gives you wisdom on the field and helps slow things down.”
The Aggies have three ranked road games on the schedule one against No. 10 Texas Christian University and two versus No. 24 University of Arizona. The Aggies will also face rival University of New Mexico four times, two in Las Cruces and two in Albuquerque.
