The fourth annual ¡Mira! Las Cruces event was home to the Come Grow With Us table on Saturday, April 25.
The table was one of many at the event offering the opportunity for visitors to participate in enriching and interactive experiences. In this case, Come Grow With Us featured the activity of planting seeds alongside some of the Miss New Mexico title holders.
Ernesto Hernandez, a visitor to the event who came with his children, saw the importance of activities and events like these to the community.
“Its definitely a great way for people to connect with each other,” Hernandez said.
Hernandez would also highlight the value in planting seeds for younger kids like his children, who can take away lessons about responsibility from it.
“Because they’re always excited to see the flower come out, but they’re going to have to learn that it takes care and there’s a couple of things they need to do before that flower gets to blossom,” Hernandez said.
For the Miss New Mexico titleholders, this table was an opportunity to promote growth in their community, which aligned with the essence of causes important to them.
“All of our community service initiatives are centered around growth, whether that be personal growth or within the community or plants,” Miss Three Crosses, Anistacia Aragon, said. “So we kind of just brought it all together and decided to do Come Grow With Us.”
Besides fostering growth, Aragon also found it as an opportunity to connect with all of the different groups that make up the community, and it reinforced the importance of events like these to people.
“We also get the opportunity to meet different organizations within the community,” Aragon said. “Also just different stands, different booths, and just to meet different people that we wouldn’t have met if we would have not come to this event.”
The ¡Mira! Las Cruces event also featured live music, food stands, a car show, and many more activities.
