Pedestrian killed by vehicle near NMSU

LAS CRUCES, N.M. — A man was struck and killed by a vehicle near the NM State campus Saturday, Nov. 29. University police identified the pedestrian as 32-year-old Julio Caro of Doña Ana County.

The incident occurred around 6:45 a.m. when Caro was struck by an oncoming vehicle traveling southbound on Triviz Drive, between Film Street and Cholla Road, near the NMSU Las Cruces campus.

The incident caused the temporary closure of Triviz Drive on both sides as investigators processed the scene, as well as an emergency notification to all staff and students to avoid the area due to police activity.

According to authorities Monday, Dec. 1, alcohol was not a factor in the incident. Additionally, the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and was fully cooperative. There are no pending criminal charges as of Dec. 4.
