LAS CRUCES, N.M. — The New Mexico State women’s basketball team will start its season on the road against No. 18 University of Southern California Tuesday, Nov. 4. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. MT.
Led by Head Coach Jody Adams, the Aggies will begin their 2025-2026 season in sunny Los Angeles after their 18-16 win-loss record during the 2024-2025 season. This placed them No. 5 in Conference USA.
The women’s basketball team held an exhibition game Oct. 26 against NJCAA opponent Cochise College, where they took care of business with a score of 70-35.
Junior guard Imani Warren led NMSU with 14 points, while freshman guard Keira Hudson made early impressions on both ends of the court. The team’s defense stood out, holding Cochise to just 20% shooting.
Heading into Tuesday’s season opener, the Aggies will face a major test against a nationally ranked USC Trojans squad that finished 26-6 last year and reached the NCAA Sweet 16.
The Trojans’ All-American guard JuJu Watkins is out for the season because of a torn ACL. This is a huge loss for USC, as she is one of the most dynamic players in college basketball, and averaged 27.1 points per game last year.
Adams said the team has many strengths and weaknesses going into the season.
“Our strength is our depth in positions; our inexperience is something we will have to [grow] through in understanding: the mind, body, and performance in our preparation, and why we do what we do to be ready to compete,” Adams said.
Following their season opener, the Aggies will return to the City of Crosses for their home debut against Division II opponent New Mexico Highlands University at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, at the Pan American Center.
With a balanced mix of returning veterans and promising newcomers, NM State looks to continue its rise in CUSA. They also look to make another push for post-season play under Adams’ leadership.
