HOUSTON — The New Mexico State swimming and diving team returned from Houston after a strong showing at the Nov. 19-21 Phil Hansel Invitational, finishing 8th out of 11 teams. They opened the three-day meet with 176 points on Day One.
In the 500-Yard Freestyle, Katie Rink posted a time of 4:53.51, earning 8th place out of 40 swimmers. The 50-Yard Freestyle was another highlight, with Emily Dobbins and Dijana Mazumdar placing 6th and 7th out of 40, recording times of 23.08 and 23.11. The Aggies closed the opening day with the 400-Yard Medley Relay, where Dobbins, Kodi Wiman, Willow Messner and Mazumdar finished 10th out of 33 in 3:45.20.
Day Two started strong with a ninth-place finish in the 200-Yard Medley Relay. Kira Brownell, Wiman, Dobbins and Mazumdar clocked in at 1:41.61. In the 200-Yard Freestyle, Rink continued her strong meet, finishing 12th with a time of 1:49.67.
Wiman kept the momentum going in the 100-Yard Backstroke, taking 10th place in 1:02.53. One of the Aggies’ best performances of the meet came in the 800-Yard Freestyle Relay, where Mazumdar, Natalia Florian, Dreamer Kowatch and Rink combined for a 5th-place finish at 7:24.04.
In 3-Meter Diving, Mira Tinani delivered a solid performance, placing 8th out of 23 divers and scoring 22 points.
The third and final day saw more standout swims, beginning with Mazumdar taking 8th place in the 100-Yard Freestyle with a time of 50.40. Shortly after, Wiman added another top-10 finish, placing 9th in the 200-Yard Breaststroke at 2:14.68.
The Aggies closed out the swim events with a strong showing in the 400-Yard Freestyle Relay, as Mazumdar, Dobbins, Caroline Costantini and Rink finished 5th out of 31 teams with a time of 3:43.38.
Tinani wrapped up the meet on the diving boards, taking 3rd place in the platform diving event with a score of 250.60.
The Aggies ended the Phil Hansel Invitational in 8th place overall, closing the meet with multiple top 10 finishes across swimming and diving.
