LAS CRUCES, N.M. — The NMSU Horticulture Forum Club hosted its annual Valentine’s Day plant sale in the Corbett Center Student Union Feb. 12 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The sale was fundraising the Forum’s own expenses, as the club buys their own soil and pots along with trips for the members in the Forum. The Horticulture Forum went on trips frequently in the past, but this semester Angel Torres, treasure of NMSU Horticulture Forum, says the trip has been cut down to once a semester.

“This spring, we’re trying to go to Tucson,” Torres said. “We’re kind of regrowing back our club, a lot of members have graduated and I think we’re going to try to do a trip every semester and this one is a big spring trip.”

Torres’ love for plants is what got him involved in the Horticulture Forum.

“I always wanted to grow plants,” Torres said. “I saw NMSU was offering it, so I went to join them and so far I really like it. I shifted my major to agronomy.”

The sale was a success as it brought in an estimated $1,000 for the Forum.

Maria Elena, parent of NMSU student, decided to buy two plants at the sale.

“I walked in (Corbett Center Student Union) and I got excited,” Elena said.

Elena was one of many customers at the sale that bought succulents and other houseplants that were available.

The Horticulture Forum is also gearing up for another sale happening later in the semester. The sale will be the Forum’s herb sale that will be happening in March along with the Chile Pepper Institute.
