LAS CRUCES, N.M. — Eight New Mexico State University football players showed off their talents at the annual football Pro Day Monday, Mar. 24.
Pro Day is held to enable players who did not participate in the NFL Scouting Combine a chance to showcase their talent to scouts in hopes of herring their names called during the NFL Draft. Scouts from the Detroit Lions, Arizona Cardinals and Green Bay Packers of the NFL were all in attendance.
Eight former Aggies participated, including Kordell David, Canaan Yarro, Matt Lawson, Kale Edwards, Keonte Glinton, George Eberle, Charlie Eberle and BJ Sculark. This was Sculark’s second NMSU pro day. Kicker Abraham Montaño was expected to take part, but did not end up participating. NMSU running backs coach David Cobb helped organize the event.
All players who participated had impressive careers at NMSU and followed it up with an impressive Pro Day.
David played wide receiver for the Aggies for three seasons, totaling five touchdowns and 737 yards on 62 catches. He was on the 2022 College Football Network Second Team All-Independent. During Pro Day, he recorded a 10’7″ broad jump.
Yarro played center for the Aggies for three seasons as well. He stacked up multiple awards, including the 2022 College Football Network Second Team All-Independent like David and Second Team All-Conference USA in 2023. He put up 27 bench-press reps of 225 pounds during Pro Day.
Lawson played defensive tackle for the Aggies this past season, totaling 30 tackles, including 14 solo tackles. He showcased his strength, bench-pressing 225 pounds for 28 reps.
Edwards was also part of the roster for just one season, but made his presence known at defensive end, finishing the year with 35 total tackles, including 19 solo tackles. He recorded four sacks in the Aggies’ 33-30 double overtime win over Louisiana Tech at Aggie Memorial Stadium, which was tied for the most by an individual in a single game at the FBS level during the 2024 season. This helped him win CUSA Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 17.
Glinton played cornerback for the Aggies the past two seasons and racked up many great statistics. He recorded a career-high 34 tackles this past year, with 28 being solo. The year prior, he recorded 18 tackles, with 13 being solo.
Glinton ran the 40-yard dash in 4.45 seconds, which was the fastest out of all who participated.
“I just told myself I got one shot to do it,” Glinton said to KTSM 9 News following Pro Day. “Even though I had two tries, I wanted to get it one-and-done, and that’s what I did.”
Prior to the 40-yard dash, he jumped a 37.5-inch vertical as well as a 10’6″ broad jump.
George Eberle proved to be the right man for the job when it came to punting in 2024. He averaged 44.74 yards per punt, which made him the all-time program record holder. His play was good enough to earn him Second Team All-CUSA.
Charlie Eberle showcased his long-snapping skills for the Aggies. He had zero snapping errors in the two years he was part of the program. He was part of a unit that ranked first in field goals made, tied for first in field goals attempted and third in total punts.
Sculark played three seasons at cornerback for the Aggies and made the most of it, totaling 49 tackles with 32 being solo.
Even though Montaño did not participate, he proved why he deserves to be a draft pick with his stellar play this past season. He went 18-for-23 on field goals throughout the year, with five of them being made from 40+ feet and another five made from 50+ feet. He even knocked down a program-record 59-yard field goal against UTEP in the final game of the season.
Overall, the players who participated in Pro Day accomplished many great statistics in hopes of hearing their name called in the 2025 NFL Draft.
