LAS CRUCES, N.M. — New Mexico State football returns home to take on Kennesaw State University in a Conference USA matchup at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8. This is the Aggies’ homecoming game for the year.
NMSU (3-5, 1-4) is coming off a tough 35-16 road loss against Western Kentucky University Nov. 1, where the offense totaled 179 yards.
The Kennesaw State Owls (6-2, 4-0) have only lost two games this season, including Wake Forest and No. 2 Indiana on the road.
This will be the first time these two squads face off. Kennesaw State is currently first place in conference, while the Aggies are 10th.
NMSU quarterback Logan Fife will look to bounce back after throwing five interceptions and just one touchdown pass in the last two games.
At a press conference Nov. 3, Head Coach Tony Sanchez discussed the team’s preparation for a volatile conference foe.
“We need to be way more efficient in the passing game, and that will set up the run game,” Sanchez said. “We definitely had no rhythm on Saturday, and we can’t go through that two weeks in a row.”
Wide Receiver PJ Johnson III also addressed how the Aggies’ receiving room can be more efficient moving forward.
“Once we come together and trust the process, trust Coach [Sanchez], trust our O-line and trust our quarterback, we will be fine,” Johnson III said.
NMSU Defensive Lineman Ezra Christensen is set to return this week after missing the matchup against Western Kentucky due to injury. Christensen leads the team with six sacks on the year.
Winning the turnover battle will be key for the Aggies, who enter the game with a better turnover differential (+3) than the Owls (-2).
A win at Aggie Memorial Stadium for the Aggies would improve their home record to 4-1, and 4-5 on the season.
Kennesaw State is favored by 7.5 points, and the over/under is set at 52.5, according to ESPN analytics.
