Burning of the Lobo

BURNING OF THE LOBO

LAS CRUCES, N.M. — Leading up to the annual Rio Grande Rivalry, students from New Mexico State University and the University of New Mexico take part in a long-standing rivalry tradition by burning a papier-mâché version of the opposing school’s mascot.

The event, including the creation of the Lobo, is organized by the Associated Students of NMSU (ASNMSU) and gives Aggie students a chance to show their school spirit ahead of Saturday’s rivalry game.

The Rio Grande Rivalry football game is set for a 1:30 p.m. MT kickoff Saturday, Sept. 26, at Aggie Memorial Stadium and will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network.
