DNA Ink Offers More Than Just Tattoos

LAS CRUCES, N.M. — For more than 16 years, DNA Ink has been serving NMSU students and the rest of Las Cruces with all of their tattoo and body piercing needs.

The shop is owned and operated by Drew Sedillo, along with his son Nicholas Sedillo, who is the main body piercer. Located on 2460 S. Locust St., the shop is within walking distance from the NMSU campus, giving students a nearby option to stop in between classes and studying to express themselves with a new piece of body art.

“We were just kind of blessed with a great spot right next to the campus,” said Nicholas Sedillo, the main body piercer at DNA Ink, and the son of shop owner Drew Sedillo.

“It’s definitely great for me, because all of the people from the campus always come to get piecings, spur of the moment, in between classes. Even a lot of our tattoo clientele are a bunch of college kids.”

One of the main aspects that sets DNA Ink apart from some of the other local tattoo shops is the fact that, in addition to tattoos, they offer a selection of body piercing services, ranging from earlobes, nose, and septum piercings, all the way to nipple and navel piercings.

“We’re a tattoo and piercing shop, which not a lot of the shops here in town are. Maybe like two of them also do piercings,” Sedillo said. “Piercing is a little more of an intense art form in comparison to tattoos, mainly because I’m actually stabbing into people and through them, different body parts, and this and that. Whereas, tattooing, as long as you have the art skill, a talent in art, you just have to go through the process of learning how to tattoo, since it’s just entering the top layer of the skin.”
